ANGERA
Angera (province of Varese) is a health resort on the most southerly part of the Lombardy shore of Lake Maggiore beneath the Angera Fortress which dominates the landscape. The fortress is one of the most strongly fortified in the whole of the region. The oldest part is the castellan tower, built by the Torriani family at the beginning of the thirteenth century, a larger palace being added later, in 1350. It is possible to visit several rooms including the Gothic courtroom which is decorated with frescoes by fourteenth century Lombardy artists. In other rooms you can see the frescoes which were taken from the Milan palace of the Borromeo family. The Civic Archaeological Museum in Via Marconi is divided into two parts, prehistoric and Roman.
