This is a tourist and health resort situated above the central basin of Lake Lugano, completely surrounded by Swiss territory, and with wonderful views. It was the birthplace of the famous “Campione masters” and has several outstanding fourteenth buildings, including the Oratory of San Pietro, the former Parish Church of San Zenone which is now the town gallery for temporary exhibitions, and the Church of Santa Maria dei Ghirli, founded in the fourteenth century and rebuilt in the baroque style in the eighteenth. There is also a public casino in the town.
