OMEGNA
This town in the province of Novara is situated at the north end of Lake Orta. It is an industrial centre of some importance and a major road junction for the lakeside towns. Known in Roman times by the name of Voeminia, it became a fortified town belonging to the Crusinallo family in the Middle Ages and part of the city-state of Novara in 1221. Medieval buildings, such as the gate and the bridge over the River Strona, give this town a special atmosphere.
