Description
This well known thermal resort is situated in the lower Camonica Valley amongst fields and chestnut and pine woods. It is part of the Darfo Boario Terme district. The little town was clearly planned with tourism and the hotel trade in mind since all the main buildings are set in the Parco Termale where there are as many as four springs – the Antica Fonte, the Fausta, the Igea and the Sila. Directly opposite the entrance to the hydro is the road leading to the splendid Alpine basin of Schilpario which lies across the Sclave Valley. At first you go through steep cliffs but then the road opens out to reveal some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lombardy mountains. The Parco delle Incisioni Rupestri is an important attraction, with signs that men lived here in the very earliest times, although the town of Bayoarius was probably founded in the Longobard era.
