VALDINIEVOLE

Valdinievole

The Azienda di Promozione Turistica in wishing you a successful cure and pleasant vacation would like to remind you that in addition to the cures, greenery and natural environment Montecatini Terme and Valdinievole are famous for the courteous hospitality, cleanliness and excellent food that are offered in the hotels.

Valdinievole: located in the heart of northern Tuscany the area is easily reached by car via the Firenze/Mare Autostrada, Montecatini Terme and Chiesina Uzzanese exits or by rail on the Florence-Lucca-Viareggio line which stops at Montecatini Terme, Borgo a Buggiano and Pescia. The Valdinievole district comprises 11 towns (Buggiano, Chiesina Uzzanese, Lamporecchio, Larciano, Massa e Cozzile, Monsummano Terme, Montecatini Terme,Pescia, Pieve a Nievole, Ponte Buggianese and Uzzano).

Two of these towns (Montecatini Terme and Monsummano Terme) are known for their springs which, especially at Montecatini Terme, have excellent curative powers (especially on the digestive and intestinal tracts). The rich waters, with their specific curative and healing powers, make it possible to offer a complete range of treatments: mineral water cures, balneo-mudtreatments, physiotherapy in thermal pools, whirlpool treatmentes, motion therapy, inhalation treatments, tubotympanic insufflation, vaginal irrigation, intestinal irrigation, eudermal treatments.

Many cures and treatments are also available at Monsummano Terme for ailments such as arthroses, fibroses, gout and hyperuricacidemia, gynecological disorders, arterial diseases and inhalatory treatments.

There are four distinct areas in the Valdinievole: Valleriana and the Alta Valdinievole, Dorsale del Montalbano, Bassa Valdinevole and Padule di Fucecchio.

Valleriana and Alta Valdinevole are located north of Pescia and Montecatini. The origins of the area date back to olden times and small villages and castles are perched on the hillsides. Just a few of these are: Aramo, Castelvecchio, Fibbialla, Medicina, Pietrabuona, Pontito, S.Quirico, Sorana, Stiappa and Vellano.

Dorsale del Montalbano is south of Pistoia province; it reaches a maximum height of 633m asl and is characterized by immense olive groves and vineyards.

Bassa Valdinievole is assured of a mild climate and great water resources by the nearby Appennine. The area is characterized by much agriculture, especially flower growing and tree schools which are fundamental strongpoints in the area's economy. Padule di Fucecchio, along with Bientina in Lucca Province this area is a continuation of the Tuscan inland area: up to the last century it was rich in the vegetation, birds and fish that are typical of marshland environments. Today, both public and private agencies are actively studying the area in order to structure, conserve and enhance its assets even for touristic aims and excursions.

The Valdinievole is rich in culture, art and folk traditions, and its various towns are living testimony of this. The main resources can be found at Pescia, an art city which is also famous for flower- and plant-growing. Some of its treasures include: the Cathedral, Sant'Antonio, the Madonna di Pié di Piazza, the altarpiece depicting San Francesco del Berlinghieri, the Cardini Chapel by Cavalcanti, and the Palazzo del Podestà, all of which date from around 1200/1300.

Ponte Buggianese is known for the frescoes by Annigoni, Painter of Queens, in the church of the Buon Consiglio; the Castle of Larciano; The Castle of Cozzile; the Palazzo Pretorio of Buggiano and of Uzzano. Then there is Collodi, part of Pescia, famous worldwide for its park dedicated to Pinocchio and the eighteenth century italian gardens at the Villa Garzoni.

Valdinievole is a welcoming area, in a human scale, where art, culture, folk traditions and good food mix readily with good health and relaxation. It is no accident that a golf course which fits perfectly into the natural environment was opened recently, amongst the olive trees of Montalbano it is the latestjewelamong the world's finest sport facilities. In the Valdinievole, and Montecatini in particular, it is possible to "EXPERIENCE THE CONGRESS". Excellent congress facilities make it possible to hold meetings of all types, and an area rich in culture makes it possible to relax afterwards.
