12/10/00 Atlantis Traduzzioni (Christy Hurley)
My fiance and I are planning to get married in Italy next year. I've heard someone refer to Atlantis Traduzzioni as a company that helps non-Italians get married in Italy. I can't find them on the Internet. Has anyone else heard of them or does anyone have suggestions for other such companies?
10/25/00 Re:Atlantis Traduzzioni (norma jean bishop)
Dear Christy, in what city are you planning to get married? I haven't found Atlantis. I did find an ad for wedding arrangements in the English Yellow Pages, for Genoa, with a delightful name: "Beautiful Days." Their address is passo Frugoni 4/13 Genoa 16121, tel. and fax is 010588023.
  10/25/00 Re:Re:Atlantis Traduzzioni (Christy Hurley)
Norma Jean, Thank you for checking into this. I was also unsuccessful in finding this particular company. We have instead enlisted an agency in Florence to assist us with the arrangements.
  11/9/00 Re:Atlantis Traduzzioni (Barbara Skinner)
I found a website that specializes in Italian weddings, altho maybe only in Florence, I'm not sure. They definitely do weddings tho, and the address is : sogniitaliani.com Good Luck! Barbara
  11/9/00 Re:Re:Atlantis Traduzzioni (Christy Hurley)
I am happy to report that even though I never found Atlantis Traduzzioni we have chosen Florence-Events to assist with our wedding in Florence. So far, I would strongly recommend their services to anyone thinking of planning an event in Florence.
12/9/00 1. playgrounds/other fun for 4 year old; 2. cell (Cathy Gnatek)
Dear Norma Jean: We'll be traveling with our 4 year old, 1 year old and a babysitter at end of March. Two questions: (1) I've traveled with Julia (the oldest) lately and have had a bit of a time entertaining her. Will we be able to find playgrounds in towns--where--and if it's at a school, is it ok for us to use them (after hours). Do you have other ideas e.g. are there zoos, kids parks etc. . (2) Is it possible to rent cellphones from Italian company--we want two phones--one for babysitter, one for us and would like the calls to be at Italian local rates. Thanks much for your help
12/9/00 Taxi from Livorno to Florence (Carol smith)
How can I reserve a taxi from the port in Livorno to pick my family up and take us to Florence on one day and return us the next day?
12/9/00 Re:Taxi from Livorno to Florence (norma jean bishop)
ITWG has an on-line service. Go to "HOME" above, click on "Transports" (under "Information") then click on "Car and Limousine Service." Then follow the prompts. A free quote will be emailed to you. This service is cheaper than a taxi.
12/9/00 Valley of Marengo (Armando Velarde)
Hello, We will be traveling to Italy on Dec. 27 for a month. I plan to go to the Valley of Marengo, near Alissandria to see if I can find any information about where my grandmother came from. I would appreciate any information on this area, and also if anyone has tried to trace their family history in Italy - where are the best places to look for records - churches? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Armando
12/9/00 Re:Valley of Marengo (norma jean bishop)
Dear Armando, See my article, to the right of this column, about "How To Find Your Ancestors in Italy." Alessandria is located in the Piedmont region, between Genoa and Milan, not far from Asti (36 kilometers), which is famous for its spumante. It is on the Tanaro River, which is a branch of the Po. You could go to the main cathedral and ask for information. How you approach the search depends on how well you speak Italian and whether your family is from the city of Alessandria or from another part of the region. Good Luck!
12/8/00 From Malpensa Airport to Cervinia... (K Kookiez)
Thanks in advance to whoever can help me! = ) 1. What is the name of the train station at Malpensa airport ? No website I know refers to that train station by its name (if there's one). I need the name so that I can figure out if the MalpensaExpress Train goes directly to Statione Centrale F.S. or Cadorna. I'm trying to get to Breuil-Cervinia as soon as I get into Malpensa. = ) 2. What is the fastest and easiest way to Cervinia from Malpensa ? 3. Looking at the Metro maps, Malpensa Express only goes directly to Cadorna-Triennale,right ? I prefer direct trips if I can because I have a lot to carry. = ) A good way to figure train schedules is https://itwg.com/trains/trains.asp But you need to know the Station's exact name. (sorry, no pull down menus) = )
12/9/00 Re:From Malpensa Airport to Cervinia... (norma jean bishop)
If you have a lot to carry you might want to take a taxi from Malpensa to Milan Centrale. It takes an hour to get from the airport to Milan Centrale. There is no train from the airport. Maybe you are referring to a metro or bus. There are trains leaving for Chatillon-St. Vincent from Milan Centrale at 12:20, 13:20, 15:20 and 16:20. You must change trains at Chivasso and the trip will take a total of 2 1/2 to 3 hours. From Chatillon-St. Vincent, you can get a bus or taxi up the mountain to Breuil-Cervinia. If your plane arrives in the morning you should easily be able to do the entire trip in one day. I recommend taxis because you will be tired and you don't want to miss connections and end up staying in a hotel.
12/8/00 Skiing at Madonna de Compiglio (Jerry Abramowitz)
  Any and all pertinent information
12/8/00 Travel to Sicily (Anita Demario)
Dear Norma Jean: We will be travelling to Sicily next Fall, 2001, with another couple. What is the best and cheapest way to get there? Would we fly into Rome and then Palermo?
12/9/00 Re:Travel to Sicily (norma jean bishop)
Dear Anita, Where are you flying from? Usually people fly into Rome or Milan, but you can fly into any European city and get a connection to Palermo. Rates also depend on the season.
