The Tremiti archipelago is made up of three islands, one islet and some rocks. It is situated twelve nautical miles off the north coast of Gargano and is a distillation of natural beauty and history set in the limpid blue water of the Adriatic – rocks and precipices, caves and creeks, cliffs and crags, pine woods and Mediterranean maquis. The biggest island in the group is San Domino, famous for its beautiful caves, the most interesting of which is called Bue Marina and is sixty metres deep. The next, in order of size, is San Nicola and finally, there is Capraia where Nature has performed architectural miracles, such as the Architello, beneath which the sea forms a little lake. The half-moon rock called Cretaccio and the black, furrowed rock called La Vecchia are in the middle of the archipelago.
