This artificial lake in the centre of Sardinia is a few kilometres to the east of Abbasanta in the Oristano province. It was created in 1923 when the Santa Chiara dam was built on the River Tirso. When it was created, it was the largest artificial lake in Europe, with a surface area of 33 sq km and a capacity of 402 million cubic metres. It was named after its designer, the engineer Angelo Omodeo. Nearby is the round tower of Losa, built of large basalt blocks and belonging to the mid-Bronze Age (1500-1200 BC).
