3/16/99 Milan transportation (eric)
Our family is travelling this thursday to Milan. After training the country for nine days, we stay the last night near the duomo in Milan. Does anyone know if there is a bus from this area direct to airport? Also, any ideas on how to entertain a 4 and 6 year old in italy?

3/14/99 spending money (Tom Clementi)
I will be chaperoning a group of high school students (I'm a first-timer) to Rome, Venice, Florence and Sorrento and wold like to know if anyone could give my high-school students any tips on how to spend their tourist money wisely. Our hotels and 2/3 of our meals are already paid for. Thank you. Tom Clementi

One way to save quite a bit- For the 1/3 of the meals that are not paid for, advise your students not to eat at sit down restaurants. They will have to be a coperto (cover charge for bread, tabel, etc.) and servizio (service) charge. There will be many shops that serve sandwiches, etc along the way. Also, if sit down meals are necessary, you DO NOT have to tip. It is not customary, as that is what the servizio charge is for. Souvenirs- Keep these to a minumum (although it can be hard to tell high schoolers not to shop.)

We do a lot of eating from stand up places and bakeries. There are markets and small stores in the neighborhoods that will allow the kids to save money by buying bigger packages and sharing - quarts of juice vs cans etc. Florence is known for its alabaster carvings, but they are heavy and can be hard to carry- at the same time there are few other places that you can get this type of ware. We love Italy, but we spend most of our money on Food and sites. Rome has many articles associated with the Vatican. Eat the ice cream - gelato - it is wonderful.
3/13/99 Rome, december 99 (Enrique Galvan)
Hola, We are planning to spend Christmas and New Year '99 at Rome, for the special celebration of Year 2,000. Where can I find info about activities, etc. Thank you Enrique Galvan Mexico City

Stop by your local travel agent. Many tour operators allready have packages out for the millenium. DER- a great company- has some wonderful escorted and independent packages. You can do what we call an F.I.T- put together basically anything you want. Check out www.dertravel.com. DER only works with travel agents and most agents will charge you a small fee for putting together an F.I.T----By the way, I will be passing through Mexico City airport soon. Can you let me know, will I need to know some Spanish to get around. Also, my final destination is Oaxaca- is English spoken at all there? Our e-mail is not up yet, so if you could post an answer on this forum, I'd really appreciate it.
3/13/99 Hotels in Florence and Siena (Nan & Carol)
Any recommendations for clean central 2-star hotels in these cities for a 6-7 night stay?
8/13/99 Re:Hotels in Florence and Siena (Lene)
I have been recommended a place in Siena called Cannon D'Oro. It is very centrally located at Via Montanini 28 in the middle of town. The hotel is small, clean and low-cost. The Rough guide calls it: "...the best choice among the central low-cost hotels." Tlf. 0577/44321. Enjoy Siena Regards, Lene
3/13/99 Montefalcone Di Val Fortore (Robert J. Vechiola)

3/12/99 Three questions about Italy (Nancy)
Hi! Does anyone know: 1. Are there any rental villas in Tuscany that have daily bus service to other hilltowns? 2. Is there a weekly regional bus pass available for frequent trips to hilltowns outside Siena? 3. Can you recommend any night walking tours of Florence, Siena, or other hilltowns? Thank you.
3/13/99 Re:Three questions about Italy (Lamberto Aloigi Luzzi)
1)The very beatifull place in Tuscany is Sansepolcro (Arezzo),birth place of Piero della Francesca, very close to the historical cities like Assisi,Urbino Gubbio ,Perugia,Arezzo, Florence, but in central Italy in peacefull country, rich of treking paths and excellent foods and wines.Villa La Castellaccia is my family house, where is possible to spend quite holidays. The B&B is low cost in very ancient house, but very confortable. Please go to visit the villa: http://www.geocities.com/baja/5371 50 meters from villa there is a bus (n°4 stop a day),but this bus go to Sansepolcro 4 km away.To Sansepolcro das exist bus going to Arezzo (daily service). In Arezzo there are various buses from Siena,Florence and others Tuscan cities. The good solution is to rent a car or minibus with driver because does'run daily turistic bus. regards Lamberto Aloigi Luzzi
