1/31/00 Recommended accom within 25 miles of Pisa ? (dgo)
We arrive in Pisa in July but 3 days early for our booked main holiday accommodation a little further south. Can anyone recommend clean quiet simple accommocation for these 3 days, not far from Pisa as we arrive at airport late at night and do not want to drive far then ? Lucca might be a possibility. B&B/residence/agritourism could be ideal. Family of 4. Unfortunately the hotel at Santa Margherita Ligure, much recommended in these columns, is far too far !

Why don't you try to stay in Livorno which is about 3-4 miles from the airport and is definitely cheaper than Pisa ( I'm affraid that lucca is even more expensive than Pisa , even though it' a great city), I don't now any addresses over there , but you can reach pisa by train in about 20 mn , try to get a guide like the let's go Italy or something like that

There's little or nothing to do in Livorno itself, though! C. Glebbeek

1/31/00 Skiing the Dolomites (Steven Patterson)
I'm an Australian going skiing in the Dolomites (Alta Badia and Val Gardena) between the 11 and 23 of March. Are there any other Australians skiing or snowboarding this region during March ? If you have been to this region before can you recommend any good runs (advanced skier) or any areas to stay clear of ? Thanks.

1/30/00 Italy in Sept/Oct 2001 (Nicole)
Hello! My friend and I are planning a 2-3 week vacation in Italy in either Sept or Oct 2001. We are debating whether to rent a car or rely on trains and buses. I feel the car would be a good choice because of the freedom it offers, I do not wish to be bound by the limitations of schedules and I also wish to travel to areas outside the main cities (countryside). Is this wise for 2 young women? Are the italians crazy drivers like we hear? Any advice? Thanks a lot!

Car would be the best (but it does not come cheap: forget that idea! Country: can be done by bus (I have done it) but I would suggest the car for that.

Get a car! Driving in Italy is easy and will give you freedom you can't get w/ public transportation. Just remember: Find a parking spot in or just outside of any major city and leave your car while you stay there. Don't attempt to drive in a large city (besides, you won't need to -- walkind and busses are fine). Take ALL your belongings out of the car whenever you park it.

1/30/00 Religious and National Holidays (Tim Dilworth)
My wife and I are planning to be in Naples and vicinity at Easter this year. With the National Holiday on the 25th of April coinciding with the Easter holidays, I am trying to find out just what will be open and operating on Easter Saturday, Easter, Easter Monday and Liberation Days - trains, taxis, restaurants, museums, etc. Would appreciate if someone can help me or tell me where I can get that kind of information.
1/30/00 Re:Religious and National Holidays (Giacinto Lubrano)
A must see is of course the thursday evening and Friday morning procession on Procida Island. A living and wlaking representation of all Holy Bible, long almost 2 hours and 1.5 kilometres. Unique in the world something like for what I know , almost the 5% it happen in Tarragona, Spain. Have a look at: www.campnet.it and look for Procida Island. Enjoie your period, Giacinto Lubrano.
1/29/00 Summer holidays in the Dolomites (Anthony Eyre)
I have spent many delightful summers in the Dolomites, an undiscovered or at least forgotten area of Italy as far as the Chiantishire Brits are concerned. See our large villa available for rental: www.dolomites.co.uk - I'd welcome any feedback!
