7/9/00 Restaurant Recommendations in Rome? (Kathy Hansen)
We're a family of 4 leaving for Italy in about 10 days. Any restaurant recommendations in Rome? What restaurants did you absolutely love? Which ones would you go back to? Which ones would you avoid? Preferably with some vegetarian offerings for our teenager daughter. Thanks!
7/13/00 Re:Restaurant Recommendations in Rome? (Norma Jean Bishop)
My friend Bernie has a favorite restaurant, located in the Hassler Hotel, in a perfect setting - at the top of the Spanish Steps. The service is excellent. Your daughter can offer something without meat from the menu. One of the great things about Rome is the variety of food available.

7/6/00 accomodations (Peter Bernesby)
Hello, I am going to be attending school in Rome from August 23 to Dec. 9 and I am looking for an apartment to rent (inexpensive) any idea? The address of School I am staying at is The American University of Rome is: Via Pietro Roselli, 4 00153 Rome, Italy I am looking for something close.
  6/27/00 Re:accomodations (Norma Jean Bishop)
I would suggest you work with your school for accomodations, or with the American Church in Rome. There is also an English language magazine and a website called "There's No Place Like Rome" (http://www.mondoweb.it/livinginrome.) Since housing can be expensive, it's good to find a roommate, or better yet, get a room with a family.

7/4/00 Pitti Fair - What is it? (Judy B)
What is Pitti Fair? We will be in Florence July 14-17. We have been told this is during Pitti Fair. I can't find anything about what it is. Please help!
7/4/00 Switzerland to Venice (Danny Chesterman)
We are a family with children coming by train from St. Moritz by train and crossing over the border at Tirano. We wish to spend a week between Tirano and Venice travelling between the Lakes (or possibly Dolomites). The week should include 2 days in Venice. Do you suggest going straight from the Swiss border to Venice (and if so, how?) or wending our way down and doing the final 2 days in Venice ? Also, up to Venice, can we do this without a car - by bus - and if so, how to find out bus timetables ?
7/3/00 Opera at Verona (jane fenlon)
We have tickets for the opera at Verona on a Saturday evening in August. We are staying at Gardone and propose to drive to Verona for the performance. Is this sensible ? If so, is it easy to park ? If this is not a good idea, what is the best way to get to Verona and back to Gardone ?
7/13/00 Re:Opera at Verona (Norma Jean Bishop)
Dear Jane, Do you really want to drive 66 km at midnight after the opera? I would stay at a hotel in Verona. Ask any tour agent or visit our site. A lot of hotels will be booked, so better act now. As for parking, you can't park easily in the downtown area. There are taxis or buses or you can walk. Get a good night's sleep the day before and enjoy the opera.
7/2/00 Venice (Paul Rogers)
We shall be travelling to Lake Garda in August and expect to visit Venice for a day. What do we expect to pay for car parking when we get there. We were going to go via coach but would have cost 25ukp each! Thanks
  7/2/00 Re:Venice (Norma Jean Bishop)
Two years ago the price was 25 000 lire for 24 hours in the car park of Piazzale Roma, or at Tronchetto. You can also leave the car at Fusina near Mestre and catch the vaporetto 16 to Zattere, then the 5 to San Marco or to the Venice train station.
7/1/00 Travelling with two children (Mark Horrocks)
We are in Venice and Rome for a few days each in Sept. Can anyone suggest hotels which cater for quad rooms. Prefer 3 star US$150 per night!!Thank you.
7/2/00 Re:Travelling with two children (Norma Jean Bishop)
I suggest you click on hotels above. Travelling with children is great; I have done it for years. We just need to program activities to their taste, and not always eat in restaurants (that gets boring and expensive for them). Children open many doors; Italians love them. Have fun!
