11/29/00 Atlantis Traduzzioni (Christy Hurley)
My fiance and I are planning to get married in Italy next year. I've heard someone refer to Atlantis Traduzzioni as a company that helps non-Italians get married in Italy. I can't find them on the Internet. Has anyone else heard of them or does anyone have suggestions for other such companies?
10/25/00 Re:Atlantis Traduzzioni (norma jean bishop)
Dear Christy, in what city are you planning to get married? I haven't found Atlantis. I did find an ad for wedding arrangements in the English Yellow Pages, for Genoa, with a delightful name: "Beautiful Days." Their address is passo Frugoni 4/13 Genoa 16121, tel. and fax is 010588023.
  10/25/00 Re:Re:Atlantis Traduzzioni (Christy Hurley)
Norma Jean, Thank you for checking into this. I was also unsuccessful in finding this particular company. We have instead enlisted an agency in Florence to assist us with the arrangements.
  11/9/00 Re:Atlantis Traduzzioni (Barbara Skinner)
I found a website that specializes in Italian weddings, altho maybe only in Florence, I'm not sure. They definitely do weddings tho, and the address is : sogniitaliani.com Good Luck! Barbara
  11/9/00 Re:Re:Atlantis Traduzzioni (Christy Hurley)
I am happy to report that even though I never found Atlantis Traduzzioni we have chosen Florence-Events to assist with our wedding in Florence. So far, I would strongly recommend their services to anyone thinking of planning an event in Florence.
11/16/00 TUSCANY WITH CHILDRENS - WATERPARKS? (judith s)
I wish to visit Tuscany next summer and would like to know which area has the most suitable attractions for children of 6 and 8 years. Where are there any waterparks in Tuscany and any other places for days out. Suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
10/26/00 Re:TUSCANY WITH CHILDRENS - WATERPARKS? (norma jean bishop)
The most famous in Italy is Gardaland, which is in Lake Garda, not Tuscany. It is like a small Disneyland. I would take them to the beach - Versilia is great, or further south, between Livorno and Piombino. You can find a hotel with a good pool, too.

Waterparks could be interesting, but why not the coast?
11/14/00 Any floods now ? (Leo Lyk)
I am going to Milan, Florence, Bologna next week. Are there any floods there which would disrupt my travel ? From the weather forecast, I got impression that there are very strong winds, in particular in Florence. Thank you.
11/15/00 Re:Any floods now ? (norma jean bishop)
Dear Leo, As you know, the weather changes daily. Ten days ago, I answered some questions about this by saying that the situation was improving. For the last 3 days however, it has been raining everywhere except in the south. Flooding is more of a concern than wind. Do NOT drive. Buses and trains will be running, but there might be some interruptions, in the Milan area. If you aren't going to the smaller towns and countryside, I think you will be fine. Don't forget to bring extra socks, and maybe waterproof shoes or boots. Do a sundance and it might clear up! Otherwise, think of Gene Kelly!
  11/15/00 Re:Re:Any floods now ? (Leo Lyk)
Hi Norma, thanks for the response. I am going to take trains, so I hope I should be alright. I am in particular going to Lucca, where I think you live. How it is there and would I be better taking train or bus from Florence ? The same question for San Gimignano (sp ?). Thanks a lot.
11/13/00 Learning to speak Italian (Lisa --)
I will be visiting Italy this spring and wanted to learn a little Italian before hand. I've taken 4 years of Spanish, so I anticipate catching on fairly quickly. Can anyone suggest a good CD version for learning?
11/15/00 Re:Learning to speak Italian (norma jean bishop)
Dear Lisa, You can find Italian courses online. Search under "Italian language courses online" I can tell you how I did it many years ago. After studying Spanish for three years, I decided to study in Florence. I bought language records and listened to them while I ironed. The drills really helped me with the verb endings. I also listened to operas and popula songs. Opera librettos gave me the vocabulary and the music gave me the rhythm and pronunciation. CDs or cassettes can go everywhere with you and you'll be sounding like a native (maybe with a slight Spanish accent?) in no time. Buena suerte.
11/18/00 Re:Learning to speak Italian (Donna Lanese)
I can recommend an excellent languege program which I've been using: The Rosetta Stone. It's easy to understand and use and interactive. You can find this program in any MAC store. Also, I've found watching Italian movies very helpful. I can recommend "Mediteranneo", "Il Postino", and anything by Roberto Begnini. And, see if you can purchase Italian magazines. It seems that Italian Vogue is readily available in many bookstores. I try to pick an article and work my way through it. Sometimes this takes me a while but I always feel like I've accomplished something when I'm finished. Good luck !
11/12/00 train vs rental car (Vijay Saxena)
Dear Norma Jean, Next week my family of five will be in Italy. For inter-city transport (Rome-Florence and then Florence-Pisa) should we use rental car (well, rental van) or trains+taxis? Please take into account cost and convenience. Are there other possibilities such as coach busses? Thank you...vijay
11/15/00 Re:train vs rental car (norma jean bishop)
Dear Vijay, I wouldn't use a rental car unless you want to spend time in the countryside. We're having a lot of rain in the Florence-Pisa area and it could be dangerous driving. With a "biglietto kilometrico," up to 5 people can travel 3000 km for 2 months or 20 trips; the ticket costs about $100.00. Be sure to validate it at the ticket window each time you travel. Buses are more expensive but sometimes faster. Mixing buses and trains can mean extra work for you, but some small towns don't have train stations. Take a taxi when you need to get someplace, for example a museum, before closing hour or before dark. Inside a city, a taxi is a good solution, especially if it will take all 5 of you. In Florence a fifteen-minute taxi ride costs about $7.00.
