The Hotel San Gallo, completely renovated, is located within a few steps from St. Mark's Square. The San Gallo Hotel is located in a small characteristic campo (square), called San Gallo or Rusolo, which has an ancient well and curb and is very close to St Mark’s Square (50 metres). This is the area where the ORSEOLO family estate stood in the Tenth Century; one member of this ancient noble family, Pietro I Orseolo, was elected Doge (chief magistrate) between the years 976 and 978. Next to this, the modern building of the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro now stands on the site which used to be the Casa dei Francesconi, where the famous sculptor Antonio CANOVA died in 1822. As far back as the beginning of the 1800s, the San Gallo Hotel was mentioned in the main guides of the time as a peaceful refined hotel. The building shows a combination of sixteenth and nineteenth century styles, and was completely renovated in 1995 The hotel location is unique thanks to its proximity to the major places of interest in the town; in fact, St Mark’s Square is only 50 metres away, and La Fenice Theatre is only 5 minutes’ walk from the Campo.
The main Venetian streets, called Calli, which wind all around this area, charm the visitors with their attractive colourful shop windows (Calle dei Fabbri, Procuratie, Mercerie, Frezzeria, Calle Larga XXII Marzo, Rialto). The hotel can be very easily reached, should you travel by car (we offer a discount for parking at the Tronchetto car park), by train or plane, as it is near San Marco pier, no. 15, where all public transport means arrive from Piazzale Roma, the railway station, the Tronchetto car park and the Marco Polo airport. Its accommodation capacity (12 rooms) accounts for its family management and the special treatment reserved for its clientele. All the rooms are furnished in the Venetian style and are provided with bathroom/shower/toilet, hairdryer, mini-bar with fridge, direct dial telephone, satellite TV and air conditioning. Moreover, there is a characteristic flowery terrace on the top floor, where one can relax and enjoy breakfast during the hottest months of the year. Unfortunately, due to the arrangement of the rooms which branch off into the various sections of the ancient building and are only accessible by rising steps, the hotel is not suitable for disabled people.
