3/23/99 Parking cars in Venice (Susan)
I will be traveling from Florence to Venice in May. Should we travel by train or drive. Where do we park cars once in Venice? I am also interested in driving from Florencce to Cinque Terre and on to Venice. Would I travel via Milan or Bologna? Thanks for any info.
3/27/99 Re:Parking cars in Venice (Cal Lester)
Your question is complex. A) You will be trvaling in two different directions. Cinque Terre is S.W. of Florence, and Venice is N.E. I have driven to both. If you rent a car in Florence, AND you have sufficient time, you might want to go to Venice first. There are no cars IN Venice, however there are very large parking garages at the edge of the city, where you leave a car. From there you could then drive S.W again to Cinque Terre. Then from Cinque Terre ( which is very beautiful, you may wish to drive past Genoa to Monte Carlo to visit "The Casino". A better choice might be to take the train from Florence to Venice, and then pick up the car when you are ready to LEAVE Venice. I will be there myself. My 15 day cruise ends in Venice, where I will pick up a rental car, and drive down to the Amalfi Coast for a week. Have fun.
3/22/99 Family Self Catering Accomodation (Michael Hogan)
My family and I (2 adults and 3 teenagers - all girls) would like to holiday in Italy (don't mind where) and are looking for pointers on where to find information on houses and apartments for rent
3/22/99 Re:Family Self Catering Accomodation (Nancy)
Try this US web site: http://www.italyfarmholidays.com/ I am currently using this villa/apartment rental company for my own travel plans. Good Luck, Nancy
3/23/99 Re:Family Self Catering Accomodation (Peter)
There are scores of US agents that now specialize in booking such accomodations in everything from palacial villas to rustic farmhouses. (I've booked two of the latter for a two-week trip this Spring.) Interhome (1-800-882-6864) has a comprehensive catalogue of rental properties that they will send you for free. Look up www.initaly.com and you'll find a comprehensive web-based catalogue. For more, do a web search for "Italian villa rental" or "agritourismo" (for farm properties). Whatever you do, though, shop around. The property I booked through Interhome I later found listed at a lower price on InItaly's web site and then found that it had its own site (as many properties do, some in English) listing an even lower price. When you find a property you like in a catalogue, always do a web search to see if it can book directly with the property -- you might save a few hundred dollars on a week's rental.
3/21/99 RESTAURANTS IN TIVOLI/ROME (CYNTHIA)
IN OCTOBER WE ATE AT A RESTAURANT IN TIVOLI AND I CANNOT REMEMBER THE NAME. THEY WERE THE BATHS OF DIANA AND NOW TURNED INTO A RESTAURANT WHERE THE MOTHER AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW GIVE A FRESH PASTA DEMONSTRATION. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT AND IT HAD A VERY LIVELY ATMOSPHERE. LOGIC TELLS ME THAT THE NAME WILL BEAR THE NAME "DIANA", BUT I AM RECOMMENDING IT TO FRIENDS, SO I NEED THE EXACT NAME....DOES ANYONE KNOW? ALSO, I AM LOOKING FOR A RESTAURANT IN ROME THAT WOULD ACCOMMODATE 20 PEOPLE, IS THERE ONE THAT SOMEONE HAS BEEN TO ON A TOUR THAT THEY FOUND EXCEPTIONAL ?? PLEASE ADVISE. THANKS.
3/19/99 Family Search- Pardo (Susan)
My grandfather came to America from Reggio di Calabria in the 1920's. His name was Anthony Pardo. He passed away in 1947. After he married my grandmother, Domenica DiGuilio, they settled in Detroit. My mother remembers visiting some aunts/uncles/cousins(?) in the area but the family has lost touch. I think there may still be some relations in the U.S. If anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it.
3/19/99 Montepulciano/Siena accomodations (Marita)
Any suggestions for a reasonably priced hotel in Montepulciano? I'll be using public transportation to get there. Am I better off staying in Siena and making a day trip to Montepulciano? Thanks.
3/18/99 Visit to Florence (Olli Arjamaa)
I will be in Florence from 2.4. to 5.4. 99. Now I just wonder if museums are open or closed during my visit. The tourist guides I have studied don't say anything about this. Any special recommendations, places to see or visit during that time? I am interested in art and architecture but also in good food. Been in Florence once before for two days.
3/17/99 Bondi Family (Julie Bond Seybold)
I am planning a trip to Italy over the Millineum. My purpose is to find relatives last known to be in Bisicquino, Sicily. Last name would be Bondi. Any information leading to the discovery of my relatives would be truly appreciated.
  3/19/99 Re:Bondi Family (Susan)
The best place for you to look would be church records from the town of your relatives birth/marriages/death, etc.
  5/15/99 Re:Bondi Family (N Floria)
Just saw your request today. One of the best sites I have found regarding the information you would like is in the web site "In Italy.com". I was in Bisaquino two years ago, met a family who were one of the kindest and most gracious ever! The town is not too large and you could certainly find someone who would love to assist you in your search. Good luck!
3/16/99 Orvieto Daytrips (Nancy)
Any recommendations for daytrips (by foot or bicyle) from Orvieto? Thanks.
3/16/99 Rifugios around Mt Etna (Christopher)
Hello, I was hoping to find out some information about the various refugios around MT Etna. Has anyone had any experiences with one. Reccomendations? Contact info? Thanks for any info.
3/16/99 Milan transportation (eric)
Our family is travelling this thursday to Milan. After training the country for nine days, we stay the last night near the duomo in Milan. Does anyone know if there is a bus from this area direct to airport? Also, any ideas on how to entertain a 4 and 6 year old in italy?
