3/31/99 Weather in January (Kristen)
I would like to honeymoon in Italy in January of 2000. I am wondering where the warmest spot to go is. Thanks!
3/29/99 Peronia Family Brewery (Kristi De Paul)
My fiance and I will be traveling to Italy in May 1999 on our honeymoon. My family tells me that my great-great grandfather owned a brewery, which is still in operation. My great grandfather's name was Sam Peronia (may have been peroni). Any info would be greatly appreciated. We'd love to know more of our family heritage.
3/29/99 Euros or Lira? (Nancy)
Has anyone been to Italy recently and used Euros? On my trip to Italy I am wondering if I should bring Euro Travelers Checks or US Dollars Travelers Checks. Thanks.
3/31/99 Re:Euros or Lira? (Cal Lester)
I would strongly reccomend that you use you ATM Card instead. There are ATM's all over Italy. You invariably get the BEST rate on the exchange, and you get your money in LIRA.
  4/10/99 Re:Euros or Lira? (Russ)
I wouldn't take any travelors checks, I have found them not readily acceptable. My choice is a VISA card. ATM's are plentiful and the exchange rate is favorable. To avoid interest prepay your card account.
  5/16/99 Re:Euros or Lira? (Sharon)
First of all, Euros are only used in the world market. The actual Euro paper money and coins won't be available in Europe until 2002. ATM is the best. We don't take any foreign money and a little U.s. currency - particularly ones. But considering the date of your question, you probably know all this since you may have already traveled!! Hope you had fun!!!
3/29/99 Major restoration work for 2000 (Marge Yost)
We're planning a month in Italy this fall. Does anyone know if the major sites around the country will be covered with scaffolding in preparation for the year 2000? Will it be difficult to get around the major cities? Thanks for any help on this.
  3/29/99 Re:Major restoration work for 2000 (Nancy)
In my trip planning for a visit to Italy in April, I've been reading that Rome and Assisi are two of the cities with major work being done.
  4/15/99 Re:Major restoration work for 2000 (mimi)
Just returned from 10 days in Naples and Roma. Everything is being restored but is open. The intention is to have it done by the end of the year but I doubt it. Almost everything is open.
3/29/99 Scuba Diving in Sardinia (Chris Hambrick)
We are going to Italy on our honeymoon. We are spending the first few days in Sardinia because there is supposed to be good scuba diving. Does anyone agree or have recommendations as to who I should contact. Thanks, Chris
3/28/99 Holidays in May (Leon)
Does anybody know about May 1 and May 2? Will places of interest like museums, Vatican, etc. be open?
3/24/99 Student in need of immediate info!!!!!!! (Ashley Poole)
Hi! I'm in desperate need of a :Primary Source" from Florence, Italy. I got the assignment today and it's due Fri. morning. All I need is some info. about what's in the city (not touristy stuff), and how it affects the people around it. I only need one place that ANYONE has been to or lives in. PLEASE help me! I've tried other sites and references, but nothing has primary sources! Thank you! ~Ash~
3/24/99 Italian handycapped facilities (Don Tufts)
I will be taking a 17 day tour of Italy in May and I am "semi handicapped" (I have walking problems) The tour operator can only tell me that special handicap facilities vary by city. I am trying to get some specific information for places on the tour, such as the Vatican and other sights in Rome, Venice, Pompei, Capri, ect. Any suggestions on how I can match the local situation to my itinerary, so I can plan ahead and perhaps make some special arrangements.I don't want to spend most of the trip sitting on a tour bus while my wife has to tour on her own.
3/23/99 Parking cars in Venice (Susan)
I will be traveling from Florence to Venice in May. Should we travel by train or drive. Where do we park cars once in Venice? I am also interested in driving from Florencce to Cinque Terre and on to Venice. Would I travel via Milan or Bologna? Thanks for any info.
3/27/99 Re:Parking cars in Venice (Cal Lester)
Your question is complex. A) You will be trvaling in two different directions. Cinque Terre is S.W. of Florence, and Venice is N.E. I have driven to both. If you rent a car in Florence, AND you have sufficient time, you might want to go to Venice first. There are no cars IN Venice, however there are very large parking garages at the edge of the city, where you leave a car. From there you could then drive S.W again to Cinque Terre. Then from Cinque Terre ( which is very beautiful, you may wish to drive past Genoa to Monte Carlo to visit "The Casino". A better choice might be to take the train from Florence to Venice, and then pick up the car when you are ready to LEAVE Venice. I will be there myself. My 15 day cruise ends in Venice, where I will pick up a rental car, and drive down to the Amalfi Coast for a week. Have fun.
