2/12/00 ashtrays (Pat)
I am a science teacher in the Dallas, Texas area of the United States. My students and I saw a film on Mt. Etna. In the film, the villagers went onto the mountain to scoop up lava and form it into ashtrays with the Mt. Etna letters on them. I would like to have an e-mail address of a tourist shop that might have this sort of ashtray for sale. Please, if you are familiar with any of the tourist shops in that area, write back. Thanks.......
2/11/00 Inn in San Daniele (Nina Moroso)
Am looking for info about my Old Nonno's residence in San Daniele. His name was Nicholas Polano and his home is apparantly an inn of some sort now. Hope to visit Italy, Udine in particular and explore family roots. Any help?
2/19/00 Re:Inn in San Daniele (karen)
If you want to visit San Daniele, there is a prosciutto festival at the end of August. It usually attracts large crowds (ie hundreds of thousands of people over 4 days), and is reputed to be the largest fest in Europe after the Oktoberfest. My fiance comes from Udine and it is a pretty and quiet town, very different from what we typically see in movies. Good luck.
2/10/00 Ballooning in Tuscany (Dennis Tavares)

1/31/00 Recommended accom within 25 miles of Pisa ? (dgo)
We arrive in Pisa in July but 3 days early for our booked main holiday accommodation a little further south. Can anyone recommend clean quiet simple accommocation for these 3 days, not far from Pisa as we arrive at airport late at night and do not want to drive far then ? Lucca might be a possibility. B&B/residence/agritourism could be ideal. Family of 4. Unfortunately the hotel at Santa Margherita Ligure, much recommended in these columns, is far too far !
2/10/00 Re:Recommended accom within 25 miles of Pisa ? (Giovanni luna)
Why don't you try to stay in Livorno which is about 3-4 miles from the airport and is definitely cheaper than Pisa ( I'm affraid that lucca is even more expensive than Pisa , even though it' a great city), I don't now any addresses over there , but you can reach pisa by train in about 20 mn , try to get a guide like the let's go Italy or something like that
2/12/00 Re:Re:Recommended accom within 25 miles of Pisa ? (Caesar Glebbeek)
There's little or nothing to do in Livorno itself, though! C. Glebbeek
