This itinerary proposes a visit to Monte Baldo, a real "Hortus Europa" with the wealth of flora that it boasts on its two slopes: the westernone overlooking Lake Garda and the eastern one, descending in terraces to the valley of the Adige River, then continuing rumbling up terraces to Lessinia towards the Regional Nature Park.
Due to the length of the route, it is advisable to divide the itinerary between two days.
From Garda (67 m a.s.l.), you head off towards Albisano (310 m a.s.l.), a breathtaking terrace situated over Lake Garda; then you continue onwards to San Zeno di Montagna (650 m a.s.l.), a village containing characteristic, historical/architectural buildings in an evocative, panoramic position over the lake. From here, you descend to Biasa, with another group of traditional houses situated within the bounds of an olive grove, then Castelletto over Lake Garda.
After travelling approximately 10 km, you arrive at Malcesine with its historical centre gathered around the castle (see picture). From here is possible to go up Monte Baldo by cableway, which takes you up in two stretches to the 1720 metres-high Tredes Pini, a spectacular and scenic "leap" which enables you to absorb the considerable majesty of the Benacense area.
From Malcesine, you go back toward Assenza and up to the Castello di Brenzone built according to traditional design, climbing further up Monte Baldo along a steep, difficult little track which allows you to admire all the various types of vegetation growing on the mountainside.
In this way, you arrive in Val Trovai (1150 m a.s.l.), an important village in the contest of Baldense geology.
The next stop is at Prada, both a holiday resort and a departure point for excursions on Monte Baldo (a chairlift enables you to reach the Costabella meadows at a height of almost 2000 m.
Going onwards to the characteristic centre of Lumini, you descend to Caprino, a large town with beautiful villas and an interesting museum.
Now you go up eastern slope of Monte Baldo, reaching Spiazzi from where there is an interesting climb to the Sanctuary of the "Madonna della Corona", and later arrive at Ferrara di Monte Baldo, yet another holiday resort and departure point for excursions on Monte Baldo.
Now only a few kilometres separate you from Novezzina, where you should visit the remarkable Botanical Gardens which have gathered together all floral species present on Monte Baldo. Then you move on again to Novezza and Pro Alpesina, reached by taking the panoramic, military road enabling you to admire the ruins of emplacements and trenches dating back to the First World War. From here, you can go down in the direction of the artificial lake of Pra da Stua and continue downwards into the Val d'Adige to Avio with the nearby Castle of Sabbionara.
After another few kilometres, you find yuourself in the midst of the vineyards on the eastern shore of the Adige, on the way to Belluno Veronese and Rivalta where you cross the rover to come to Peri. From here, you climb up the Lessinia along the road which leads to Fosse, a village situated at the foot of the Corno d'Aquilio. Nearby is the village of Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo with its interesting paleontilogical museum and numerous quarries of calcarious slabs. You go down now to visit the grandiose, natural arch of the "di Veja" bridge, situated in one of the nature reserves, and you thus reach another little valley and the town of Molina, where you should consider a visit to the Waterfall Park and the tiny Botanical Museum.
Now head back to Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo, going upwards to Erbezzo and the Passo delle Fittanze (1391 m a.s.l.), situated within the Lessinia Regional Nature Park. From here a little road reaches the "Malga Lessinia" (1600 m a.s.l.), Monte Castelberto, a panoramic viewpoint, and Podestaria, all hamlets situated within the Natura Park.
Finally, you reach S.Giorgio , a holiday resort and departure point for excursions in the Park, then descend to Camposilvano, where it is a good idea to visit the "Grande Covolo" and the nearby Fossil Museum. You go onwards to Velo and Roverè Mille, where you can admire the cave of the same name.
