The Islands
The Italian islands are easily reached by an excellent network of ferries and have some of the most charming scenery in Italy. The great variety marks a unique natural heritage – at times the coastlines are rocky, wild and impenetrable, while elsewhere there are wide bays with accessible sandy beaches. Typical Mediterranean maquis is found everywhere. The white beaches on Elba, the curative sands of Ischia, the cliffs of Ponza, the black sands of the Eolian islands and the caves and little creeks of the Tremiti islands continue to attract more and more tourists. The islands, such as Capri, are also famous for their elegant resorts and towns, and Capri itself is famous not only for the Faraglioni but also for the quality and chic of its hotels and tourist facilities.
 Elba Island
In the Tyrrhenian Sea, about six miles from the mainland, Elba offers to the holidaymakers a variety of natural attractions – from the white beaches on the west coast to the wilder, less accessible beaches on the east with their steep cliffs and rocks.
 Capri Island
The "Island of Love", famous for natural and bathing resorts spread out along its coastline: the Blue Grotto, Villa Jovis - last Emperor Tiberio’s home – and the famous group of steep crags – called the Faraglioni – standing in the sea off the east coast of the island.
 Ponza Island
Set on one of the most beautiful coastlines on the Mediterranean, between the Gulf of Gaeta and Circeo Point, Ponza has a particularly healthy climate thanks to the iodine-rich breeze rising from the crystal clear sea and blending with the sun’s rays.
 Ischia Island
It is the largest of the islands scattered over the Gulf of Naples. Its well-known bathing and spa resorts, curative sands have made Ischia almost as popular as its neighbour, Capri.
 Eolie Islands
Pearls of the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north of the Straits of Messina, they are seven: Lipari, Salina, Stromboli, Filicudi, Alicudi, Panarea and Vulcano. Its rocky coasts, sandy bays, thermal springs and active volcanoes make the archipelago a place of enormous natural interest.
 Tremiti Islands
These three islands, situated twelve nautical miles off the north coast of Gargano, are a distillation of natural beauty and history set in the limpid blue water of the Adriatic Sea.
