Italian Thermal Spas
The large number of resorts combining natural beauty and effective thermal treatment make Italy one of the main international spa destinations in the world. There are more than 200 centres in Italy scientifically recognised as providing treatment which is highly beneficial to the health. Some, such as Abano Terme and Sirmione, have been known since antiquity and were well known thermal stations in Roman times. The best known are the mud and thermal baths in the well-organised centre of Abano Terme where treatments are carried out in the hotels, the waters at Fiuggi, which you can drink from fountains amidst gardens and fine avenues, as well as Montecatini, Salsomaggiore and Boario. There is also Saturnia with its cascades of sulphurous water – bathing in this makes your skin young and smooth.
 Abano
At the foot of the Euganei hills, Abano is now the best mud therapy centre in Europe. The qualities of the radioactive waters that comye from the Montirone springs and its mud cures have been famous since Roman times.
 Salsomaggiore
Situated on the lower slopes of the Parma Apennines, this is one of the most important spas in Italy and a centre of cultural and social events ( The beauty competition for "Miss Italia" elewction takes place here).
 Fiuggi
This well known thermal and holiday resort in the center of Italy has got 2 therman centres: the Bonifacio VIII spring and the Fonte Anticolana. It occupies a 100,000 sq.m. which allows 25,000 people to be treated at the same time.
 Casciana Terme
Its curative waters have been known since Roman times but the first spa thermal establishnent was built in 1311 by the Lord of Pisa, Count Federico da Montefeltro.
 Ischia
The main spas are the Antiche Terme e le Nuove Terme which containssoduim chloride , bromide and iodide.Treatments: thermal baths, mud baths, hydromassage, physiotherapy and beauty treatments.
 Montecatini Terme
It is situated in the Nievole Valley at the foot of the Pistoia Apennines. The curative properties of its waters have been known since the Middle Ages. They are mostly used for drinking but also for bathing, mud baths and inhalation.
 Chianciano
Its thermal waters have been known since Roman times. Treatements: drinking water cure, thermal baths, mud baths and physiotherapy.
 Saturnia
It is a thermal centre located in the Maremma area inside a depression digged by theRiver Albegna. It is surrounded by hills covered with olive groves and cypresses. Treatments: thermal baths, mud baths, inhalation, hydromassage, physiotherapy and beauty treatments.
 Merano
Its modern spa centre is located in a park where facilities like a swimming pool and conference centre be found. Treatments: drinking water cure, thermal baths, mud baths, inhalation, hydromassage and massotherapy.
 Boario terme
It is a well known spa in the lower Camonica Valley. Treatments: drinking water cures, thermal baths, mud baths, irrigation, inhalation, hydromassage, massotherapy, and beauty treatments.
